The Gregorian Chant

CANTUSGREGORIANUS.COM presents the research, teaching and musical initiatives undertaken by the "Saint Michael the Archangel" Association of Stroncone in the study of sacred music of the Middle Ages, with special attention to its sources and its modes of execution as well as the liturgy of which it was an integral part.
Of particular interest to us at the moment is the study of the liturgical and musical sources of the Umbrian-Lazial area, a field in which the "Saint Michael the Archangel" Association of Stroncone - under the aegis of the University of Tor Vergata, which furnishes a close collaboration through its Department of Arts, Music and Performance - is conducting a census of all those manuscript fragments which were re-used as bindings for documentary material.

The section 'Manuscript Fragment', which is periodically updated, offers paleographists, codicologists and musicologists the results of this research. At least one reproduction will be presented for each manuscript fragment.

'Membra Disiecta' is the multimedia magazine which offers in-depth information on paleographic, liturgical, musicological, and hagiographic aspects.

In order to aid researchers in directing their interest to the study of manuscript fragments, we offer two instruments previousely unavailable on the Internet. The first is a data base of the roman Psaltery (for further information one can refer to the incomparable critical version edited by Dom Robert WEBER - Le Psautier Romain et les Autres Anciens Psautiers Latins, Rome, Libreria Vaticana editions, 1953 - tel. 0039-06-69883345).

The roman psalter includes the first version of the psalms of Saint Girolamo, used in the roman area.
For the gallican psaltery instead, one can refer to the site
'
http ://members.xoom.com/_se/Vulgata.html' from which it is possible to download the complete text of the Vulgate.

The eucology of the Roman Missal contains the data-base of the orations present in the Roman Missal and is designed to permit textual research on fragments of the Missal.

L'iter liturgicum italicum is an inventory of italian liturgical books preserved in Italy and abroad. The data-bank is edited by Giacomo Baroffio, a musicologist and medieval scholar presently teaching at the University of Pavia . In its integral version this data-bank includes the following fields : city, library, background, press-mark, typology, number of documents, origin, place or institution of origin, liturgical tradition/religious family, century, year, music, notation type, line height, number of lines per page, an example of the writing, columns, lines of writing, illuminator, bibliography. The site - which presents more than 16,500 liturgical sources and which will be periodically updated - specifies only the location and typology of the pieces. Data regarding the documents, their origin, century and the presence of music can be gathered from the publication of the same name edited by CLEUP, Padova 1999. For further information one can contact "baroffio@unipv.it".

Liturgical Formulary contains the system of annotations-invented by the same Giacomo Baroffio-which permits the identification of the periods of the liturgical year and more than three thousand saints cited in manuscripts of the italian area.
